Life around the Himes household has been rather busy these days, as I’m sure you can imagine. Trying to balance taking care of Jack with work, sleep, cooking, cleaning, etc. can be challenging (hence our sad neglect of the blog!) but we couldn’t be happier! We love being parents! Jack is such a precious gift from God and everyday we marvel at how amazing Jack is and how much we love him. As I write this I can hear Nate reading to Jack, complete with different voices for each character. Jack loves it when we read to him. Two days ago I had him in his swing and was reading to him and he was grinning from ear to ear. Nate just finished reading White Fang to him yesterday.
Yesterday Jack turned two months old. He celebrated with a checkup at the doctor complete with his first set of shots. Not much of a celebration! The poor little guy cried and screamed on and off for the next several hours and was nearly inconsolable. We felt so terrible and tried our best to comfort him. I finally put him in his swing, and that seemed to calm him down. He slept well last night and was just a little bit fussy this morning but overall has been much better today. He weighed in at 8 pounds 15 ounces and 21.5 inches yesterday – nearly double his birth weight!
Jack’s neck is getting a lot stronger and he has a fair amount of control over it and can hold it up on his own for short periods of time. His doctor was impressed with how he holds his neck up. He also is becoming more aware of his surroundings and is starting to reach for different objects such as the toys hanging from the edge of his bassinet. He’s been doing great at night – he’s very sleepy throughout the night and only wakes up a few times to eat before going back to sleep. He usually has one 4-5 hour stretch between feedings which is great! On Sunday he started to really smile while awake for the first time. Over the previous week we had caught maybe one or two smiles while he was awake but he has really started to do it often now – it’s so funny! Hopefully soon I’ll be able to catch it with my camera.
Speaking of cameras, I have a lot of pictures to post since I’m so behind. The gallery has pictures from the last several weeks including visits from family, a sponge bath, naps with Daddy, hanging out with daddy while he works, posing for the camera, and, of course, at the end he’s sporting his band-aids from his shots! Just click on the first picture and it will make the picture larger then click on the larger picture to advance to the next. When you’re done you can click on the square that says “ESC” at the top right had corner of the screen or just hit the escape button on your computer. Enjoy! 🙂
