Introducing Jack Alexander Himes!

What a day!  Checked in at 7am, got IV and pitocin going around 8:30am after 5 attempts and 3 nurses.  By 4-5pm the contractions had been very painful for a few hours but very little progress had been made (still just 2 cms) and therefore little end in sight.  Ashley called for an epidural which took 3 attempts before it actually worked right.  Then after getting comfortable for about an hour, Jack started to show signs of distress with the contractions. The pitocin was stopped to relax the contractions but Ashley’s body kept contracting on her own.  Jack’s heart rate was fluctuating around 100 when it had been between 140-175 previously.  Just a few minutes later Ashley had a c-section and we heard and saw Jack for the first time!  He had such a funny cry, like a little monkey, and mom finally had some relief…

For the next few hours everyone was doing fine.  Then around 2am Ashley was still bleeding a lot which required a lot of “mashing” on her stomach to expel residual blood, which was extremely painful, and eventually caused Ashley to go into a panic attack.  Meanwhile, Jack’s blood glucose levels started dropping slowly so he has been stuck in the nursery behind the glass.

Now a full 24 hours since the start, we have Jack with us in our room, glucose levels good, and mom is starting to feel better.  Oh yea, and Dad is doing great!

Introducing…our little BOY

3 Oct

Nate and I got quite the surprise a few months ago when we found out that we are going to become parents! We couldn’t be happier! So far things have been going pretty well and up until this past Friday we had been dying to know the gender of our little baby. Several people thought that it was a girl. Interestingly, my sister was the one person who said she thought it was a boy. We had a quick ultrasound on Friday and were thrilled to find out that the little baby growing inside me is, to many people’s surprise, a BOY!

We could see his little heart beating away, his little legs (knees up by his nose), and his sweet little arms with his hands resting back behind his head. He was moving around and was so very sweet. We will get to take another peak at him next week and will hopefully have more fun pictures to share.

We are so blessed.

We’re on our way to being first time home buyers…the only thing left is securing our loan.  We close at the beginning and August and we are very excited!

It is a beautiful house and we are so incredibly blessed to soon call it our own.  I don’t think the reality of it has fully sunken in yet.  One of the things I’m looking forward to the most is having my own yard to garden.  My future vegetable patch:

Nothing a little weeding can’t fix.

The backyard has some very nice trees.

We received the most beautiful note from the sellers today when we went for the home inspection.  The note conveyed so much kindness and told us about the history of the house, the wonderful neighbors, the way that the sellers decided to choose to work with us as opposed to others, and more.  They are wonderful people and we feel so grateful that we are able to work with them.  (As well as our realtor who is amazing!)

We’ll put up more pictures of the inside once we move in and get settled.

Garden Photography – Backyard paradise!

Last week I had the privilege of photographing this beautiful backyard.  There were so many fun things to find; little statues and trinkets and flowers hidden here and there.  Here are just a few of the many pictures that I took:

Nate’s graduation!

13 Jun

Nate has been working on his Master’s of Social Work for the past 2 years and he’s almost done – he just needs to finish his internship at the beginning of August and he will be officially done.  However, he was able to walk through the graduation ceremony in May with his classmates.

My favorite sister!

12 Jun

Several weeks ago (has it been that long ago already?) my favorite (and only) sister came to stay with us for the weekend.  She is such a fun person to be around – full of energy and spunk.  We look forward to many more visits in the future.  Here are some pictures that we took while she was here…
